TRACE
Returning to the site six times over two weeks, I observed the timescales and occupation of the "cultivated" and "spontaneous" environments through the plants and people that inhabit them. I anchored my observations to the locations of two plant species - the Franklin Tree outside of Bartram's house and a Tree of Heaven afflicted with a spotted lanternfly infestation, growing in a trash can storage lot adjacent to the public trail.
Observing the atmosphere, seasonal change, health, light quality, weather, and visitors' activities, I found that both environments, despite their very different maintenance regimes and spatial characters, teemed with vibrant daily life. Through my routine observation, I broke down the binary frame projected on these two environments.
