I set out to find the West Philly riverfront and explore as far along it as I could in both directions. What I observed was a surprisingly isolated territory, divided by railroads, and rife with contradictions and contrasts. In relation to its surroundings, Bartram’s Garden appeared quite conspicuous, leading me to question how this land of difference came to be.
